Maybe impressive, maybe not, PO1 William "Chip" Nagel! I think of all the skydivers (including me and many that I trained) that just stood in the door (or out on the strut) and then jumped! We didn’t write no stinking article!
When I was a student in college, I was already a USPA “C” (Advanced) licensed parachutist, rated by USPA as a Jumpmaster and an Instructor, and I was an FAA certified Senior Parachute Rigger. There were many, many other college students who had much more experience and much better credentials than me. All that to say is that I’m not surprised in the least that the colonel’s student is a more proficient skydiver and is his instructor. It happens all the time.
The only reason the article got published is that the author is a big shot at the USAFA and he was trained by students. I’m glad he jumped, but it’s not that big a deal!

Lt Col Charlie Brown Well, don't know for sure but bet this individual w.as a big shot at USAFA because he was a flier who had done well in his career. As such, and as an educator for cadets, he needed to find out what it feels like to jump out of an airplane. So ya, it a a big deal.
