Churchill's vision for ending the stalemate on the western front was spot on. Sadly, he didn't have the generals with the right stuff to pull it off. They withheld reserves and allowed opportunities to pass untaken. How sad. So many lives, so much suffering might have been alleviated. This is but another lesson teaching us that wars should be fought to win. If you have overwhelming power, use it! Use it aggressively! Use it sooner than later!

If you ever get a chance you should visit Ft. William Henry and Ft Ticonderoga (especially in early October as the fall colors are spectacular). The monument to the 42nd Black Watch at Ticonderoga is particularly moving

That will have to be next summers road trip. This summer my kids and I are going through some of the mud states. But I will definitely add it to my must see for the east coast trip.
