Growing in rural area guns were common place. My grandfather had two shotguns and a .22 rifles. All the neighbors had at least that !

I grew up without even considering that anyone wouldn't have a gun.
High school parking lot was full of pickup trucks with shotguns and rifles in gun racks,so we could go straight to hunting after school.
