The whole premise of the shirt was a message to the thirteen original colonies or states in American that "Divided we fall United we stand". Doesn't anyone remember history? King George and the wrath of England could and would snuff out the flames of Liberty and freedom from England's Rule on state at a time. If the colonists united they would force England's hand and spread her troops thin enough to defeat them and it worked. Patrick Henry used the phrase in his last public speech, given in March 1799, where he said, "Let us trust God, and our better judgment to set us right hereafter. United we stand, divided we fall. Let us not split into factions which must destroy that union upon which our existence hangs."
