This is a huge issue that is still under reported and dealt with adequately by DOD. I had a close friend, a reservist, get deployed to Iraq a few years ago. He is also a civilian LEO. During pre deployment training he struck his head during an exercise. Two weeks later, while in Iraq, the symptoms of TBI surfaced. He had to be sent home. Even though there was plenty of documentation and many witnesses to his injury the Air Force denied his injury was service connected. He couldn’t go back to his civilian job because of the TBI. It took years for him to recover. Luckily, he doing better now.

Many of us were shocked how poorly he was treated by the Air Force in regards to his injury.

Fine as far as it goes. But this particular installment seem more like an advertisement for omega-3 fatty acids products instead of an initial report.
Where are any references to other related items, specifically the current studies and past studies on this very subject, to include the Army-NFL combined study from 2012 and supposedly continuing to this day; to the current reports on CTE. Or the one being done by the VA, if it is still continuing. I would also be remiss if I did not mention the "Race for a 'Concussion Pill';" as espoused by Dr. William Korinek (CEO of Astrocyte Pharmaceuticals). Or how about a mention right from the beginning about Pro-IV, good, bad, or indifferent?

I think we all grasp the problem has more enormity than this one blog post. Anti-inflammation is the most common lead in to discussing reducing the effects of cumulative trauma to the brain at this point.

One thing is constant, the more we learn about the brain... the less we know. We're trying to encourage guys to stop self-medicating and accepting that broken is the only answer.
