The US Civil War saw a very high number of Generals on both sides who were mortally wounded from Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson shot by his own men at Chancellorsville who died on May 10, to Maj. Gen. John Sedgwick killed by a confederate sniper at Spotsylvania, VA on May 9, 1864 and J.E.B. Stuart killed who was killed on may 11, 1864 PO2 Mark Saffell. Some rock stars gain more fame after death and I suspect a few civil War generals became more famous after death or infamous such as George Armstrong Custer.

In a war noted for pitting family members against one another, Stuart's family situation was one of the highest profile of the Civil War.
His wife Flora's father was Union General Philip St. George Cooke. Stuart's brother-in-law was BG (CSA) John Rogers Cook.
Stuart, his wife Flora and her brother John Rogers Cooke are all buried in the famous Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia, along with other such notables as Presidents John Tyler and James Monroe, President of the Confederacy Jefferson Davis and MG (CSA) George Pickett.
