The quote below makes me want to puke. This is the same group of congressmen and women who voted themselves a pay raise this year while pontificating on pay inequality and the need for $15 an hour minimum wage. Yet if you do the deployment math, the average junior enlisted soldier makes somewhere between $6 to $9 an hour....and many are getting shot at.
Rep. Susan Davis, D-Calif., ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee's personnel panel, said she worries House Republican plans to authorize a 2.1 percent pay raise for 2017 - one-half of a percentage point above what the Pentagon has requested - will "take funds from other critical priorities," and impede the military's ability to keep its equipment and day-to-day operations functioning optimally.

I'd say keep that piss ant pay raise and take that money and invest it into the troops themselves. Keep them IN service rather than using every excuse in the book and out of it to put them out. Give them training dollars instead of bonuses or raises.

Just another hypocritical republican. The reason pay raises have been below what the law calls for is becasue of the requirement to hit the sequestration limits caused by the republicans refusing to negotiate on the budget and threatening to cause the US to default on its debt. Even now, the Tea Party (now called the Freedom Caucus) repubs are pressuring speaker Ryan to go back on the budget deal agreed to last year that raises the spending limits a little. They want to cut the budget even more. So when everyone yells about how the military is shrinking and it's Obama's fault, look no further than to the republicans that brought us sequestration to find the real answer.
All their talk about cutting budgets sounds great until you actually have to look at what is getting cut. The Freedom Caucus repubs are the worst. But of course, speaker Ryan himself is the guy who said it isn't right that military people get a 40 year retirement after only 20 years of work, and introduced a retirement pay cut into law that had to be repealed by the rest of congress after it passed and was signed into law.

switch the salaries of the worthless congressmen and women and divide that pay among the military see how fast they would change the system
