Thanks TSgt Joe C. for reminding us that on May 3, 1951 that on Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees, meeting in closed session, began their hearings into the dismissal of Gen. Douglas MacArthur by President Harry S. Truman.
POTUS Truman did not want to risk a war with China so he relieved War hero General Douglas MacArthur who wanted to cross the Yalu River to cut off the Chinese armies before they invaded Korea.

Thanks for the history lesson. I read about this years ago when I was in school.

Gen. MacArthur in fact received a double chance as a general. He was alone among the theater commanders at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack to not be dismissed and tried for dereliction of duty. MacArthur's popularity saved him from that trial for keeping America's only heavy bombers in the Far East parked when attacked by Japanese forces. He went on to oppose the invading Japanese troops on the Philippine Islands where it was demonstrated that the food stores prepared in the years of peace according to Army plans were captured intact by the Japanese. American & allied troops starved while defending against the enemy due to not getting the food stores moved to the Bataan peninsula. I believe personally that MacArthur should have been recalled away from the Philippines after the Japanese invaded and been relieved of duty.
