On the eve of the first 100 days of the President Donald Trump administration I realized I could not remember the first 100 days of former President Obama or former President George W Bush's administration's clearly. I realize that pundits are focusing on those benchmarks :-)
I have been paying attention to Senate confirmations and was especially pleased when Judge Neil Gorsuch was confirmed to fill the vacancy created by the death of Associate Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
Of 556 key positions requiring Senate confirmation … there is currently no nominee for 465 positions; 26 positions have people who are awaiting nomination; 40 positions have people formally nominated; and most importantly 25 people have been confirmed for office.
The Senate has not been overwhelmingly behind the President which is not surprising because there are many agendas in the Senate
I am glad that progress is being made on many fronts and am hopeful that regulations will be rightsized, reconciled and eliminated/revoked where necessary.

Conservatives Excited By Trump’s First 100 Days

‘Steady as she goes and full steam ahead’ could be the enthusiastic rallying cry of conservatives as they take stock of president trump’s first 100 days.

“Very exciting…. His appointments to some of the regulatory agencies that don’t get a lot of attention. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that regulates 15 percent of the economy. He put in a de-regulator, free market guy. Ajit Pai. He put in a free market, de-regulator for the Federal Trade Commission. Regarding anti trust…he put in someone who is gonna fix that huge sectors of the economy are going to be lightly regulated because of his personnel decisions,” says Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform.

President Trump has chosen free market, de-regulators for key personnel posts which cheers Norquist, but, perhaps even more encouraging for Torquiest, is the President’s tax plan.

“And he’s just envieled an additional approach…to tax reform. Completely in sync with what the House and Senate were looking at…but more aggressive. Fifteen percent business tax rate, not twenty percent, that makes us competitive with the entire world. Not a bad start,” Norquist points out.

If personnel is policy, then filling key positions with conservatives could lead to a reorganization of the government to perhaps include…less government, says John Palatiello, President, The Business Coalition for Fair Competition.

“On substance, I think there are two things that the Trump Administration has accomplished. The first is the confirmation of Justice Gorsuch. The second is the Executive Order that President Trump ordered in March, reorganizing the federal government. There has not been a comprehensive review of the Executive Branch of the government since the Hoover Commission back in the 1950s…and I think that has the potential to be his legacy,” Palatiello explains.

Reorganizing government may have the potential to be President Trump’s legacy, but so might the unprecedented use of the Congressional Review Act says Phil Kerpen, President of American Commitment.

“These Congressional Review Act resolutions… overturning individual regulations. Only once in the time in history that law was passed in 1996 in the 21 years since, it had been used once prior to President Trump and now it’s been used 13 times. All the way through regulation overturn votes in the House and Senate signed by the President so, I think that has consumed a lot of legislative time. Even tough it hasn’t gotten the media coverage these efforts to overturn specific regulations. And of course he also confirmed a Supreme Court Justice let’s not forget that. I don’t think that’s ever been done in the first 100 days before,” Kerpen opines.

On the eve of his 100th day in office, it appears President Trump’s support– among conservatives at least— appears to be as robust as it’s ever been."
