This weekend, country music musician Cameron Hawthorn effectively came out as gay in the video for his love song, “Dancing in the Living Room.”
In the video, couples of different ages and genders slow dance with one another in their respective houses, sharing a moment of love and intimacy. At the end of the video, Hawthorn returns home to a man, and the two dance together, tenderly holding one another and trading glances.
Hawthorn told The Advocate, “I remember always thinking how special it was to dance freely with my boyfriend in the living room of our apartment—being gay, it’s not as easy to dance as a couple in public together as it is for a straight couple.”
He said he wanted to express the specialness of such intimate moments, shared in the privacy of one’s own home.
