I was mostly ambivalent towards Cruz until 2016. I felt like, if He were to be elected as POTUS things would pretty much stay status quo. Didn't dislike him, didn't like him all that much either. Until Trump stepped up, I felt like Cruz might be "the lesser of 2 evils". Now I see him as just another reason for term limits.
