This woman is an Iranian Kurd who was born in a refugee camp in Ramadi, Iraq. Her family emigrated to Denmark when she was 3. She left college to go back to the Middle East to fight with the Peshmerga and YPG against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
According to the article "at least 125 Danes have joined the Syrian conflict, mainly to fight for Isis. Of these, around 62 are believed to have returned to Denmark, which leaves the country with one of the highest rates of returnees in Europe." This article doesn't make mention of the fates of those that have returned to Denmark. This woman gave up everything to go fight for a cause that most of the world doesn't want to get involved in much, if at all. Now she's facing jail time and she's a HVT for ISIS. Some reports say she has a $1 million bounty on her head.
I haven't been able to find anything that states what has happened to the others that have returned to Denmark after going to the Middle East to take up arms for one side or the other. It seems wrong that anyone who would go to aide in the fight AGAINST ISIS be punished though.
