Data is vitally important. More important than ever. But. There seems to me to be a growing tendency to conflate words and violence, or in this case data and ammunition (headline). I know they are using it to make a point that data is important. Napoleon knew data was important, as did Sun-Tzu and Clausewitz. But they also knew that when the clash begins, the fog rolls in; the best data is suspect, and operational commanders and leaders everywhere are expected to use experience, trust their people, and apply their knowledge of warfare. The leaders and troops and training and morale are the ammunition.
