Nothing new. They have been doing this for decades. If they paid back all of the money plus interest that has been stolen from SSN your monthly check would increase by a lot.

The Doc Fix law was signed April 2016. That's what's new. Using your SS funds to pay for other people's Medicaid.

They still do (a few) checks, but that's not really the point. The government will take YOUR social security money you paid into the system, if you find yourself having to cash out a lot of mutual funds in one year due to a medical emergency.

I know it wasn't the point, I was just surprised by it. Regarding what was the point, I don't believe anybody gets the money they paid into the system. It has always been the case that the people paying into the system now are supporting the people receiving benefits now. It has been that way from Day 1.
The problem with that set-up is it makes it a system based on demographics. That's fine when you have 14 people paying into it for every 1 taking out of it and when our old people died at younger ages. But that isn't the case now, is it? Now old people are living a lot longer, and the ratio of people paying it to people taking out is a lot closer to 3:1. They system is unsustainable, and it's going to have to be restructured.
