It absolutely is still lacking. Even now I still have to fight to get recognized for my service; it I get one more, "are you a nurse?" question...not that I don't love my military nurse buddies; but since when are all the men in one field? How about just "thank you" and if you must know, ask what my speciality was.

First and foremost the veteran community must stop eating their own. I am a member of several Facebook veteran groups and the division is astounding. People questioned about their veteran status of they never “deployed” or if they didn’t have a combat arms job.

A veteran is someone who signed on the dotted line and said I will go if I am called. That includes the Chaplain, the cook, the doc, and the commo section. It includes the nurses and the water treatment personnel. I do think we are seeing the last of the idiot generations that do not appreciate the contributions of all veterans as more women are showing everyone that women can not only succeed in combat arms positions but thrive!

Hooah! SGT Wagner. I was an active duty Army Nurse from 1971 thru 1996; and although I never was deployed to an actual war zone, I saw the terrors and devastation of war through so many of my patients that I still don't sleep well. I commend you for your insight. Americans are free because of the brave!

I was at the A-2 VAMC (Ann Arbor, Mi). And was overhearing a woman Veteran having some kind of problem with seeing the nurse to get her weight and vitals.. I had been after her when she signed in at
0830 that morning. After I signed in I went to see if the Mi V.F.W. DEPT. VSO was in.. he was .. we had a few words and I went back for my appt. So after hearing her and them converse I asked how many times this had happened .. she gave me a number.., I called the VSO and he came right down to the waiting area, talked to her. Then talked to them.. 15 minutes later she was in seeing that Doc. Then I got called to see mine. At least I had the satisfaction to see she got the assistance
she needed.. I. Didn’t see her for a while maybe a few months. and she remembered I helped her get assistance ..
She said the VSO gave her his card . we conversed some and I asked her some more general Veteran stuff .. She said that helped her make up her mind what
Veteran Svc Org she would join.. Anyway the V.F.W. gained a new member.. She had my name and put me as her recruiter . That was kind of her.. She said she wanted to list that VSO also. There’s only room for one name.. maybe Zi’ll see again one day .. .
