Folks get murdered regularly there, just not enough elected officials getting killed to generate any media excitement. Besides, xenophobia sells.

I watched the video. The host asked about safety where he was. He replied that the murder rate in the area he was in was 3-4 people per 100,000 and the murder rate in DC was 15.9 per 100,000. There was nothing untrue in that statement. So why the hubbub?

Well, DC is a 'gun free' zone where the politicians continue to lose 2nd Amendment lawsuits. Of course the USA-Mexico border is safer, the only 'gun free' zone exists in California. There is something to be said about the beltway bubble most of our politicians exist in. Wouldn't it be better if the lived in the real world?

COL (Join to see) - I agree and realistically, we now have the technology to have them living back home with us. I've always wondered why we don't simply demand they tele-commute. DC was a convenient meeting place 200 years ago, not really needed so much now. Every Congressman can have a SCIF in the back room for all those classified hearings and biometrics allow us secure voting. We need to bring them home for great civilian oversight.

Maj Mike Sciales - They continue to go to DC because, like Sodom and Gommorah, that is where the action is. Lobbyists, politicians and big public buildings exist to provide the visual that these people are serving/working on our behalf. If they worked from their own district (House) or home capital (Senators), then the lobbyists would have to travel to them and report their travels for public oversight. Distributing the powerful across the country would result in restoring power at the state level and away from central government. So, there isn't much in it for the well healed, moneyed elites.
