When did Tricare start covering dentist Visits... I was told they did not have Eye or Dentist coverage

Not sure when it started, sure someone out there does. Guess at some point TRICARE took over from Delta Dental which covered dependents when I was AD. Know when I retired from military in 93 they didn't, but when I retired from my civilian job and had to go shopping for dental coverage I saw it was available for retirees as well as AD, but only in certain areas.
