MSgt Danny Hope one of the RP members posted something very similar a few weeks ago. While SN (Join to see) doesn't have the celebrity status of Denzel it doesn't negate the message.

He's right. Child rearing always starts in the home but it's not limited to having a father in the household. Single mothers can be positive influences to their kids, boys and girls. The community is also a strength which is why Block parties used to be a great thing that united neighbors. Local leaders and law enforcement interactions also influence children as they grow.
Imagine being 10 years old in Southside Chicago in the 80s playing a game called "pennies" with friend; a CPD car pulls up and the cop inside says "hey, you kids need to stop that. Gambling is wrong." Who would've thought playing with a handful full of pennies would get you in trouble and for 10 year olds we felt like we did something very wrong. None of us grew up to be criminals but I still play the lottery every week and hit Vegas now and then.

Bottomline, Denzel is partially right, it all begins with family both parents and extended family. How children grow up to interact with government, police, other cultures, other genders, etc. all starts at home.

True. I agree with his premise, I disagree that this is the only factor.
