This article fails to address several other issues that must be brought to light. First, just because a non-US citizen served in the Armed Forces, it does NOT guarantee citizenship. Second, they must apply and having served in the military does help. Third, in order to enlist you must have a green card or be legal to reside in the US. Fourth, they would have been informed that there are restrictions on their service for example Security Clearances, assignments, etc. Finally, prior to enlistment, the persons name is run through a national immigration database. If the person is determined not to have status as a citizen or green card holder, they will be turned away. It is also possible the person could be referred to the immigration authorities. In short, they are not telling the full story. Did they go through the steps to become citizens? if they did not, then yes, they very well could be deported.
Here is some additional information linked below. I highly recommend if you know someone who is serving or has served and has not become a citizen to do so as soon as possible.

This is wrong. If your honorably discharged from the service, then you deserve to stay here. Not only that, but I feel that they should be granted automatic citizenship. They just didn't sneak across the border and say I have rights, gimme, gimme, gimme. They have actually done something to EARN the right to be here.
