I saw that movie. And read the book. He might not want to carry a weapon, but he has balls. Big enough that he didn't need a weapon to make a difference. Whoora

My wife's grandfather was a combat Marine fighting in the Pacific theater during the same time...he once told me about his great personal respect and admiration for Doss. From his perspective, Doss was a true hero. Coming from a man who fought at Okinawa and survived being seriously wounded...I take that as gospel.

Great book written about him, by the SDA, read the cut down version, great reading.
