This "could" mean, if true, the ship is non-reparable. A hull crack, depending upon how large and IF it involves the keel, would be tantamount to a twisted frame in a car...just send her straight to the chop-shop!!!

Bit of irony that both the ship and Sen. McCain are in a fight for their lives.

question. in this kind of occurrence do they reuse portions to remake a new ship? or does mean that the whole is stressed beyond use?

Absolutely. They could literally cut off the bow or stern to a certain point, and then transplant it to a another vessel. Time will tell after the inspection in Subic.
