I can not believe how the ships have changed from my 1977 two Med Floats. Thanks for sharing.

SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint - Private; There is a possibility that someone is actually looking at the concept of "affordable loss".

Losing a "President Class" aircraft carrier is NOT an "affordable loss". Losing a "Jeep" carrier just might be.

Having more (but smaller) units could well provide more flexibility of response (as well as allowing for responses at more points at the same time.

One would hope that other concepts (such as "bang for the buck") might also be coming back into play. The DD-1000 class destroyers cost six times what it cost to build the Graf Spee (in 2016 dollars) (they are also [roughly] the same size as the Graf Spee). As far as Naval Gunfire Support goes, 36 x 11" guns PLUS 48 x 5.9" guns provide one heck of a lot more than 1 x 5" gun (no matter HOW good that one gun is) for the same cost. [The Graf Spee was also one heck of a lot more "survivable" than the DD-1000 destroyers are.]

China is working on Aircraft Carrier Killers. That big floating hotel might not be so good anymore.

SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint - Private; Properly deployed Type A Kō-hyōteki-class submarines would be cheaper and just as effective.
