The Marine Corps will never be irrelevant. Marines have rarely had the latest/best/top-of-the-line stuff to work with, but eventually, when the sh!t hits the fan, America is going to need some good old fashioned expeditionary boots on the ground.

This article doesn't impress me greatly. The biggest theme I saw was "Marines need more information warfare." I might be a little shortsighted, but I don't see that as greatly helping the rifleman, that position the entire Corps is built around supporting. Seems to me something the Navy could be doing.
From the outside looking in, I think there are a few institutional mindsets the Corps could get around to updating. At times it still seems like they're thinking like it's pre-1980s where the services ran their own operations; the Marine Corps still thinks it has to do everything by itself. That said, I don't see the Corps approaching irrelevancy at all.
