DoD R&D Soars 24%, Procurement Up 15%; Army Up Most

I don't know why we spend R&D money on simple things like a new rife or pistol. We should put out what we want in a new one and have different company's compete for the contract who makes the best one and then buy that from them give a 10 or 20 year contract to the winner. Update our stock over time that is the most efferent and cheapest way IMHO.

SSG (Join to see) - while I can get behind saving money, the Army is on the verge of picking up "caseless" ammunition, and that is going to change a lot of things. That's part of the reason why the Army isn't interested in the M27. Look up the LSAT machine gun, there's a lot of interesting stuff out there on this stuff.

SSG (Join to see) - I see your point I still think that S&W or any other company could also do this and not have the army spend $$$$$$ on R&D INHO.
