To everyone who says it is easy for veterans to apply for citizenship, that is not necessarily true. Veterans are eligible to apply without filing fees and certain requirements are waived, but they still are often disqualified and then deported.
Immigration law is, along with tax law, among the most complicated in our country, and simplistic talking point answers, while good for sound bites, are rarely based on reality.
I spend over two years fighting in both criminal and immigration courts to keep a combat veteran from being deported and it was anything but easy.

Immigrants who serve are not deported unless they commit a serious crime. They should be deported regardless of their service. What their service will entitle them to a mitigation of their sentence. Their service record should also be considered. It may not be good. They all know that committing a crime will get them deported. Don't hide behind the uniform.
