Because a lot of victims do not step forward to the public after being raped doesn't mean that they aren't coming forward to family and friends and usually a therapist at some point. The terrible fact is they don't believe that the person doing it will be punished anyway and why drag their names down telling anyone?
So instead of coming forward the victim waits until it eats at his or her very soul and then when she or he can't handle it anymore they finally seek help. Adding to the lists of unreported sexual assaults. Because they weren't reported technically.

this has been the dirty truth for a very long time wherein everyone wrings their hands in dismay but nothing is ever really accomplished in the big and little picture. SMs are stifled at the unit level by so-called leaders who want to cover their asses and not let the chain of command know such has happened in their unit. Some of those who cover up the atrocities, in ways described by PO2 Kristy Williams are themselves women, doubling the betrayal of those assaulted. First, victims(targets) are assaulted by their own 'brothers' only to be further injured by their own Cof C, who are sworn to protect their SMs, and which reinforces the fact belilef system is deliberately rigged, corrupt, against them; and that such behavior is condoned. There are probably enough anecdotal accounts of this behavior to fill many books of evidence, but most victims firmly believe the perps will get away with it and it goes unreported. This is a perception held by many including the victims.

I agree with you kristy. Most victims know what kind of stink this will cause on their own name. They don't get victimized in public where they have witnesses. It's in private, then it becomes a he said she said crime. More victims need to be proactive and go have a rape kit done at a post hospital. Then go to their higher ups. But we all know there are the bad commanders and 1SG's that will say "do you really want to open this can of worms?" Or something to that effect. They do not want their companies name tarnished while they are sitting in the power seats.
