Thanks TSgt Joe C. for letting us know that on April 4, 1968 civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was fatally shot while standing on the balcony outside his second-story room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee by escaped convict James Earl Ray.
1968 was a challenging year in January/February TET 1968 kicked off with a massive NVA and VC offensive across South Vietnam. Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr are remembered nationally while those service members killed in Vietnam were generally only remembered by their friends and family.

I still remember the day and where and when we got the news. While many saw him as a Civil rights leader; I saw Martin Luther as a man who loved God and a man who I believe knew his destiny.
