In Mexico the St. Patrick’s Battalion is known as Los San Patricios .

Another interesting bit of history . . .
The Mormon Church in the 1800s was chased from state to state until they settled in Utah. Then the Federal Government sent the US Army to "solve the Mormon question". During the Mexican-American War, the same Federal Government asked for volunteers from the Mormon populations to fight, and they signed up and went, although the war had ended before they arrived.

I imagine there is a lot of history most people haven't heard before because it's really regional and/or specific to certain groups. I remember learning things about Utah that I never knew and I was born and raised here!
