The interesting thing is that it is about personal attainment. You can grow up poor and join the miliary for money for school and end up on the higher end of educational attainment. You can drop out of high school and dig ditches. You have to add personal responsibility, intellegence and a good work ethic into the equation.
There is nothing wrong with a blue collar upbringing. Many people I work with have had the same. Very rarely have I seen scientists and engineers not welcome another scientist or engineer into their fold because of upbringing. The only prices of admission to this club are the degree and competence. I am truly disappointed they quoted Bourdieu in the article. I thought the BBC was better than that.

Unless you are an Academy graduate. In that they will tell you there is no such thing, all they are doing is kidding themselves and perpetuating the problem.

You can also see this in regular employment where in the basic requirements to be considered for certain jobs, you now have to have a university/college degree. This is also a discussion that is carried out at least once a year by business and education community leaders when it is discussed as to whether a trades certificate training program is acceptable or not and whether to continue with trade schools and other related educational establishments.

This also leads to the issue about wage and salary issues that also surround the educationism problem.
