He is accountable to his shareholders. If they like what he is doing - or enough of them do - then he gets to keep doing it. That's how private enterprise works. And it is why private enterprise is able to succeed where government projects often fail. (Of course, it is also why some private enterprises fail SPECTACULARLY when government projects only fail nominally).

You forgot about the SEC. Based on his position, Musk also has to answer to the government about whether his businesses adversely affect financial markets and follow established rules.

And it appears by "face accountability" you mean "I don't like this guy so let's just throw accusations until something sticks. Even if nothing sticks in court, we will still have succeeded in ruining his name for the public."
