Lots of avenues to get into IT as a Veteran or Spouse (family members too for some programs).

Excellent points (and post). The ability to lead, communicate to and motivate all levels/backgrounds of employees and —> get results = always in demand.

After about a year on the job, the HR manager sheepishly approached me and said she had been reluctant to sign off on hiring me with my “military background” (and it was only USAR!). Suffice it to say when I first got the job I shut the F-up about anything to do w/the Reserves and just got the job done and was subsequently promoted to take over production management of a silicon wafer FAB. Also did time in “IT” —-> if you can (one or more of and not limited to the following): write/follow a spec, code, explain things so a kid (and or executive) can understand it, troubleshoot (without blaming anyone), apply common sense and hustle, your career track = bank!

Plenty of opportunities in high tech and IT for those with a “can do” mindset.
