According to testimony, including a helmet camera, 5 British Marines were told to go into a field to do battle assessment after an Apache blew away an Afghan. The group found a badly wounded Afghan in the field. Marine A told the others to carry the Afghan to the woods where they wouldn’t be seen by the surveillance camera hovering in a balloon over their base camp.

Saying that a head shot would be too obvious, Marine A shot the bad guy in the chest, saying "There, shuffle off this mortal coil, you cunt. It's nothing you wouldn't do to us." Then he said, "Obviously this doesn't go anywhere fellas. I just broke the Geneva Convention."

The whole thing was on a helmet cam.

It wasn’t exactly the heat of battle, but during the previous six months, they had experienced some horrendous shit, which I will not describe.

His commander said he was the best, and supported him.

The judge said, “…we acknowledge your personal circumstances and the immense pressure you were under, we note that thousands of other service personnel have experienced the same or similar stresses. They exercised self-discipline and acted properly and humanely; you did not.”

I don't sympathize. Bad choice. Really really stupid (not to mention illegal) thing to do.
