Just think what that helmet cost if the F-35 is scrapped, but it is adapted to other fighters...

CPT Jack Durish True. But I can see a distinct advantage for the Raptor to have this helmet, too.

SSgt (Join to see) - No doubt, but imagine how much cheaper it would have been to have developed the helmet for existing fighters such as the F-22 without wasting all that money on a poorly conceived joint strike fighter

CPT Jack Durish - True, but then, how would they be able to perpetually spend money on a bird that just doesn't want to fly right? LOL

many of the systems the helmet uses would r require a rebuild of those fighter, and thos fighters would still be obsolecent.

A peak into the future of unmanned fighter jets. Once you can get enough real-time info to the pilot they can sit in the rear in a "simulator" while flying the fighter/bomber 12,000 miles away...

That requires a jam proof communications links and unbreakable crypto, at the current time and the foreseeable future both seems as available as Unicorn Horn powered weaponry. they are possible but right now with current science they are more in the range of magic than engineering.

Also if you transmit by satellite the is a minimum of a lag of a quarter of a second on the communication path EACH way putting a lag of a half second the decision loop. that would turn a fighter into a target. that is unless you are willing to let the machine make the shoot, no-shoot decision without a human in the loop.
