Like many responding to this survey, I am somewhat concerned about fake news, but don't think this is an area I want the government to police.

To regulate 'news' would certainly go against our most basic freedom Yet people are not hesitant to scream if they feel the gvt is generating 'fake news'. Perpetrators of fake news should be held accountable in the social media and elsewhere as that is probably the only court in which it can be judged and called out. Fake news has been around a long time but only more recently has its blatant use been more noticeable. The major news outlets, media, are the biggest offenders along with the hundreds of others in the online environment blogging and commenting, eg 'comedians' expounding on political issues, without abandon.

isn't it the purpose of the "Fifth Estate" to provide unbiased reporting so the great can be informed about what their lords & masters are up to? the problem with depending on social media is that the people raising the hue & cry are partisans as well.
the *REAL* issue is that the people have abrogated their responsibility for educating themselves and depend upon others to tell them what is right & wrong and even what to think.
government by the people can't long last under these conditions
