Always hear that you can't sue the US. Not true, I guess. Sad loss of life due to bureaucratic BS. RIP Marine.

It is my belief that you cannot sue a VA Dr for malpractice. However, you can sue the VA. The VA lawyers (and they have a ton) represents the Dr. Therefore, you can see another problem with the system.

Grateful for oversight and transparency. We veterans and our families have a better chance at justice by having full disclosure. Remember if the VA becomes PRIVATIZED think about the chaos it will be to bring a private healthcare to justice.

Actually, i’ve been farmed out to the private sector by the VA several times. It’s always gone well for me.

Sgt Wayne Wood - my few encounters have been excellent. I am referring to unsubstantiated rumors proposing dismantling the healthcare side of the VA. Personally at this point, I don't see how the federal government could begin to discontinue VA Hospitals. Surf the web. There is so much out there. Try to review public accessible government documents.

Over the years i’ve seen more partnerships between the VA & various local teaching/University hospitals. That has improved VA quality of care by orders of magnitude. Why not just turn VA healthcare over to the Universities?

Keep in mind i’ve been a “client” of nearly every VA hospital on the west coast and two on the east coast over nearly 50 years so i’ve got a decent sampling

Sgt Wayne Wood - Universities are teaching and practicing entities. I worked at a VA Hospital across the street from a major University. They have the work and learn partnership. But being a veteran and an employee, as well a having worked at that Regional VISN Headquarters, I just have a different perspective. But hopefully, the best if the best of all perspectives will give the veterans the best outcomes. :0)

A VA hospital could not find records of a Veteran and so, that Veteran was not compensated for his cancer he acquired in service. No record; no medical care.

In another case; the Veteran earned credits on the Post 9/11 GI Bill, but was not allowed to use those earned credits to pay for his education. The VA claims that Veteran received Chapter 30 benefits, so his benefits under the Post 9/11 GI Bill cannot be applied to paying off the Federal Student Loan. Thus; the Veteran has been left in debt with an almost 200 credit balance in his Post 9/11 GI Bill account. Having already earned an MBA, it is highly unlikely that this Veteran will use all his earned benefits.

There are many such stories about the VA; improvements are elementary. Veterans should be allowed to apply their earned credits to remain debt-free post earning educational degrees and certification intended to assist veterans bridge the gap between military and corporate life, with ease.

Medical records should never be lost and for veterans this is of the utmost importance. If the VA doesn't take care of veteran records then, after serving who will?

Sgt Wayne Wood - The VA should be able to turn your "dog-eaten DD214" into a fresh DD214 for a Veteran.

Make sure you put your DD214 on file with your county courthouse registrar of deeds. You and your family will always know where it is.
