This is a great story about a young college student, in which war was the furthest thing on his mind, until the first plane hit the Twin Towers. I think his story represents most of us when we realized our country was going into war.
The morning of September 11th, I became a part of the Global War on Terrorism generation. I was in my second sophomore year at Emory University and experiencing the type of morning that landed me a second sophomore year. I woke up, hungover, having already slept through class. I had a paper due that morning and had hoped that if I could slide it under the teacher’s door instead of turning it in the next day, my professor’s reprimand would be minimal.

Great read, I remember a young man, long ago doing the same, for similar reasons. The commanding officer at Whitehall Recruiting Station was a traumatized LTC with facial ticks, same as French police officer in the Pink Panther Movie, you see, Whitehall was being pipe bombed at least twice a week. You can imagine his amazement when he saw two nuts (My twin brother and I) walking in wanting to join, he took us out for lunch and I said to myself, this Army is for me!
