Father is deployed and Daughter received bear with Dads recorded voice.

Does anyone know where to get these bears with dad's / mom's voice inside?
What do you think about this concept? Other ideas for keeping in touch abroad?

Amazon use the search phrase "PERSONAL Recordable Plush 15" Talking Teddy Bear" $26.99 They make other animals too.

Good question. I went to Build-A-Bear and had it done for my three kids prior to my deployment but I'm sure it's possible to do it online these days.

We had a program when we deployed where parent's on the ship would read books in a video camera, and the video would be sent to our OMBUDSMEN to deliver to the families. There was a schedule done before we left, the parent at home would have the books and turn the pages with the child as the parent at sea read on video. Worked really well for morale. Doesn't replace not being there, but certainly better than in the past...

1LT Sandy Annala - Yep, remember them well. I found that a lot of the new tech available makes for happier sailors and their families. Sometimes it was a pain to schedule it all, but it definitely paid positive dividends!
