When I was in B-52s we had a pilot who had been an attaché to Iran. I remember him telling us how great the people were but that they willingly let religion lead too much of their lives compared to western standards. That was over 50 years ago but it seems that the western standards of today tend to lean towards wanting religion to lead more of our lives. That seems troublesome unless we really want to be where Iran is today 50 years from now.

In 1985, at RGFL, I had a partner that had been assigned to some Army unit in Teheran before the revolution. He and the other Army troops were pulled out shortly before the fall of the Shah. Rick said he really enjoyed his time there, the people were great, the weather was tolerable, and the duty was light.
