It is all getting to be a bit too much in my opinion. They have a large cross in St Augustine. My wife 's Catholic school helped dedicate it. I do not think it is on government property. Even if the cross is moved to private property, it will still be seen.

On private property is protected by the first amendment. On public property is a prohibited by the first amendment.

Its this whole pesky notion (backed by the force of the US constitution) that the United States is NOT a Christian (or any other faith) country.

LTC (Join to see) - I totally agree with you. We are not a Christian nation or any other religious nation as many believe. Most of our founders were Deists and Freemasons. Thomas Jefferson edited his own Bible to drop any supernatural elements from the four gospels. They were men of the Enlightenment and most were men of science and invention. I still believe the 1st Amendment guarantees all the rest just as you rightly said.

I apologize for being a bit flippant about my original answer. The Supreme Court is the ultimate authority on interpretation. I did not mean to say it was right to promote any certain religion on public land or deny it on private property. Again, please allow me to apologize.

CPL Robert Schmit - You are absolutely incorrect. Jefferson told his nephew, Peter Carr to "Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. question with boldness even the existence of a god; because, if there be one, he must more approve the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear."

Franklin was a self-avowed deist, said "Some books against Deism fell into my hands; they were said to be the substance of sermons preached at Boyle's Lectures. It happened that they wrought an effect on me quite contrary to what was intended by them; for the arguments of the Deists, which were quoted to be refuted, appeared to me much stronger than the refutations; in short, I soon became a thorough Deist."

Thomas Payne, author of Common Sense, was a clear Deist, as was Ethan Allen (both wrote books on the issue).

George Washington's own minister stated: "Sir, Washington was a Deist!" when questioned. Another minister familiar with Washington said that "while Washington was very deferential to religion and its ceremonies, like nearly all the founders of the Republic, he was not a Christian, but a Deist."

Adams was not a Deist, but he was not a traditional Christian either. He denied that Jesus was divine and denied the Christian trinity, as did his son, John Quincy Adams.

This is total Bullshit! "We all agree on the #Obligation of the moral precepts of Jesus Christ" Thomas Jefferson to James Fishback. I hate how communists have infiltrated our military. How can anyone read the Declaration of Independence modeled after John LOCKE'S "Second Treatise of Government" Chapter III Sec. 21. "An Appeal to Heaven" and say they were deists. Most communist brainwashed useful idiots don't even know the definition of Deist. Gen. George Washington's first general order after taking command was to stop profanity in troops for God's blessing.

LTC (Join to see) - true, but there is no religion that cannot be supported by faith, from the traditional religions to the Flying Spaghetti Monster to Karl Marx. Faith is not a pathway to truth.

Capt Gregory Prickett - very true. When the old Roman Empire under Constantine converted to Christianity, it was the same War Machine.

LTC (Join to see) - Constantine himself did not convert, but as a politician it was a brilliant move to put all of the Roman Empire under a single religion. Constantine is where a lot of the outside influences came in and changed Christianity forever.

I don't go to your atheist site and make, "put down comments" or any kind of negative comments of your beliefs/way of life in any way shape or form. Why do you insist on doing that kind of garbage her on our Christian site? Could you be related to greg prickett by chance? Is your atheist site lonely or you have no friends there? Must be something in your nature, which makes you an other atheist's come to our Christian site and make derogatory comments. Your intentionally an insulting man!
I will pray for you. God bless you and yours

PO2 Peter Klein - ignore him Peter. Lawrence doesn't comprehend that if it's OK for his Christian buddies to come to our site, then it's OK for us to do the same. He's basing it solely on what he does, not what all of his religious buddies do.

Lawrence, we're making sure that wavering Christians are getting good information so that they can begin to think rationally. While you are praying for us, we'll be thinking for you.
