Polar shift is a decades old theory (with convincing evidence) but the current thought is that it's a gradual process. Even given a shift, would it necessarily be catastrophic?

There is one problem most scientist are not sure how it will be effected and that is the magnetic field around our planet that makes life possible on this planet. With a gradual or sudden shift how will the magnetosphere react and will there be any area's vulnerable to cosmic radiation. Plus conventional science is not sure if it will be a gradual process there are some studies out there that suggest it may not be so gradual once it starts. The shifting of the poles would be an inconvenience to us but if the magnetosphere is changed or weaken that would be catastrophic.
