Someone needs to educate these folks that unskilled jobs are disappearing and the more they expect to be paid, the faster these jobs will go. We also need to look at what is a ‘living wage.’ Is it a new house, new car, and three children or living in an apartment with a used car? No wage will solve spending issues and reality.

Both sides have very legitimate points. Is US poor as a country? Yes. Do we have worlds wealthiest people who wants to live here in safety? Yes. We need to have a conversation as a nation and make the wealth work for hardworking Americans. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts. You care.

Sgt Wayne Wood - We're about the only country that counts a poor someone with a car, AC, microwave, cell phones, cable/dish tv.
Are there 'chronic' poor in the US? Yes. Should we try to help those? Yes. Should our welfare enable working age Americans incentive not to work? No
US is not poor as a country - we are still the only country were opportunity abounds, and is only limited by ones own determination.
