I regularly run into people in person and on the Internet, even here on RP, who deny the existence of the Deep State. Their denials are a form of stealth defense: We can't destroy what they are hiding. They want to keep in tact as much of the bureaucracy and social programs as they can until the Democrats can return to power.

Actually, I think it has more to do with self preservation of bureaucracy more than anything. Democrats embrace big government and bureaucracy. Republicans want small government. So it stands to reason that large programs embrace the Democrats and abhor the Republicans. I am not sure that translates into a Deep State though. I think the issues in the past with the IRS, State Department and Justice Department were due to the incomming Executive not firing everyone on January 20th but asking them to hold over until their replacement arrives (then you have the Democrats slowing the appointment process).........issue #1. Issue #2 is they need to ban both contributions to and participations in political campaigns via government service employees and government unions. Should be already in place but unfortunately it is not.
