"◾On average women make up 2.5 % of Finland's new recruits"

Just to scope the issue. Seems like much to do about nothing.

SCPO Jason McLaughlin the active duty Finnish Defense Forces is a little bit bigger than Ft Carson, 33,000ish with just over 8,000 as the "staff" and the rest are conscripts. 825ish female service members.

Not sure what savings they would get either....unless its a convenience to avoid large force policy issues.

I saw the part about cutting costs, the thing is, for modern, industrialized countries, it's kinda late in the day to start making thinking about restricting on basis of gender, I should think....the notion of females staying him, having kids, and baking cookies kinda went of vogue sevl decades ago, I mean, with all the female combat vets in WW2, in the UK SOE, in the US OSS, in the French Resistance, as well as in Russia, among countless other countries, and every war pretty !much around the globe ever since, it's as I'd said kinda late in the day to start raising such distinctions, you know? I mean, that whole thing has been raging as a debate for decades now, and I think it's pretty apparent that gender has zero to do wit suitability, if females are physically able to manage a given task according to military standards, regardless of which country one might speak of, you know? Just an observation, of course, though it is an interesting article, certainly....

Different military structure in Finland compared to US. The country is not really known for military prowess. Ratio of gender in military is far smaller since it is more of a militia (small number of active conscripts with many reservists). Article also mentions up to 25% failure rate in training for women. They should have right to serve and protect, but this controversy is from history and culture.
