What got her fired, and deservedly so IMV, was not reporting her arrest to her superiors. Bad news is like fish ... smells worse the longer it lies around ... and bad news about you always sounds better when you report it rather than having it surface from someone else. The incident happened almost six months ago and it appears it just now caught up with her.

Grieves was arrested by the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 16, 2016 and charged with simple assault, a misdemeanor. In the arresting warrants on file at the Onslow County District Courthouse and reviewed by The Daily News, Grieves is accused of “scratching the victim on the chest and punching the victim on the chest,” according to warrants.

The charges were subsequently dropped on Dec. 22, 2016 by the complainant, who is Grieves’ wife. The couple was married on Aug. 18, 2015. The couple has separated and filed for divorce on May 16, 2017, according to documents on file at the Onslow County District Courthouse Civil Division. [end quote]

LTC (Join to see) Thank you for the follow up information. I figured that the charges would be dropped. That is usually the case in DV situations. Either the party refuses to press charges, or refuses to be a witness. Either situation makes prosecution nearly impossible.

COL Lee Flemming Personally, I think they were making an example out of her. This is the kind of thing the Navy does when a ship captain runs their ship into something. It is a domestic, so odds are good the charges will be dropped anyway, that is the cycle when it comes to those things. Additionally, there are a lot of states now that require an arrest if the responding officers determine that one party is the cause of the incident.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - What got her fired was not reporting her arrest when it happened back in December of last year. I have little doubt that if one of her subordinate commanders had done something similar, she'd have shown him or her the door ... and rightly so. I doubt that she was surprised by the outcome ... once her commander learned of the incident and when it happened.
