While he may be right, and the Navy might be going about this improperly with the amount of public comments, but it was his ship. Why can’t he just say, “you know what, we crashed our destroyer. I may have been sleeping, but it’s my fault. My ship, my fault. Punish me before any of those under me.”
What happened to leadership and accepting responsibility...

CAPT Rodney Clark agreed. Awful situation all around. And it should not be broadcast in the media until the results are final.
I just wish that as King Tut of his boat, he’d step forward and say, “it’s on me. No need for a trial. Get 10 destroyer Commanders who know exactly what’s going on, and I accept their punishment.”
That’s a quality lacking in the military today. Just accepting that sometimes, sh*t goes horribly sideways, and sometimes, your name is on the bottom line. When it happens, stand up, put your juniors behind you, and say “punish me.”
They’ll get theirs, too. But punishment is the opposite of eating. In awful situations like this, Senior-most should go first.
