Interesting facts about prisons in the US. I know that the Texas prison system used to employ inmates to work on prison farms and such to help offset the cost of their incarceration, not sure is that program is still in place. The statistics on rape are unsettling. The question is how do we keep people out of prison?

Most of the prison still have prison farms that keep the inmates employed. And yes, the rate at which rapes are happening have caused the DOJ to implement a program called Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). Where I work, it seems that the numbers are going up. To answer your question, I really don't know how we keep people out of prison. They have to want it more for themselves then we want it for them.
