Not to long ago, 60's and 70's, us islanders were not permitted to speak our language in schools.
If you were caught speaking our language in school, you would be suspended for 3 days, and your parents had to be inconvenienced to have to bring you back to school.
So, the principle could lecture your parents about speaking their native language.
Sounds stupid, and it was, same for chewing gun, not having your shirt tucked in your pants at school, same punishment.
