This was another great article from Forbes on mentorship. I would say it is equally important to develop a mentoring relationship with men and women to negotiate civilian and military careers.

I have found it very difficult to develop mentoring relationships with women in the civilian sector. I did not have this problem while in the Marines, but I have never been able to reconnect the same way with higher powered women out here. I do not find this to be a problem with mentoring younger women, not sure how to navigate this!!
