Former drill instructors explain what it is like to return to the fleet

Had a former TI in my flight in Minot. He wad very open about the difficulties of "coming back".

Never had that problem. Went as a SSgt from 3rd Bn PISC to L/3/9 in Oki for a year tour in Jan 77. Had a great 12 months with no adjustment problems I recall. I still have a DI voice if needed, but didn't rupture my vocal cords like those examples in the clip. Met a DI School classmate at the gas station Quantico about 2 years after coming off the street. He sounded like he was pretending to be a frog. Said he got nodules on his vocal cords and always talked that way. Honestly, I think he liked it and cultivated it for effect. Some folks never get over it.
