And so close to Fathers Day. The nKorea could not have realized that. Hurts their propaganda that he did not die in Korea. Must be bad USA medicine as the reason he died. It is USA fault that he died...in the small North Korean brain.

I am probably in a small minority here, but I hold a great deal of sympathy for this man's family, but very little for him. It is very obvious that he had to work to get to North Korea, it wasn't like he accidentally wandered across the border. To compound his poor judgment he decided to steal a souvenir. To me this decision is like the choice a lot of soldiers make to drink and drive. I spent a year in Korea serving in the 2nd Infantry Division in 3rd Brigade in what is called the Western Corridor, the most direct route to Seoul from Panmunjom. I would never cross into North Korea unless I was as well armed as I was back in the day.

More than you might think agree w/what you said.
Going to N Korea and pulling something as ignorant as he did was only asking for problems. He in no way deserved his fate but anyone following the way things work there was surprised.

More telling is how little the US government did to get him or the other American seized on various pretexts the last few years.

Sad story PFC Jonathan Albano and my heart and thoughts are with Mr. Warmbier's family. That said, you are absolutely correct north korea is not safe in general and specifically for Americans. Don't go, just don't. Thanks for posting.
